Vaidehi Paranjape, SACS and Siddharth Saksena VT Dept of Civil and Enviro Engineering have published "Evaluation of physical examination and thermal nociceptive threshold testing during placement of transdermal buprenorphine patch in healthy adult horses" in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.

Transdermal buprenorphine patches have not previously been investigated in horses and could potentially be used for long-term analgesia without needing venous catheterization. The significant increase in thermal threshold observed in horses receiving 40 μg hour via buprenorphine patches suggests pain relief may be achievable with buprenorphine delivered via transdermal patch.

Paranjape is assistant professor of anesthesiology and pain management, in the college's Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
